Laurie Peters, restaurant and concierge services manager at the San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC), was awarded the 2009 Lamplighter Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lamplighter Awards recognize merchants and individuals who are leaders in their community and have made a positive impact for the Gaslamp Quarter through exceptional service, high-quality products and enthusiastic concern for the historic district. Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter is the exciting 16-block area located across the street from the Convention Center offering some of the region’s best dining, entertainment and shopping.
"Laurie is a perfect example of the kind of individuals who make up our convention services team – professional, committed, and dedicated to serving our clients and guests," said SDCCC President and CEO Carol Wallace. "The personal service her and her team provides ensures our attendees have a great experience in our city."
Laurie is a 15-year hospitality and fine dining veteran who also serves as vice-chair of the Gaslamp Quarter Board of Directors. She joined the corporation’s team in 2005 and previously served in a similar capacity for the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau.
"When it comes to the Gaslamp Quarter, Laurie is always the first one to raise her hand and roll up her sleeves. She is one of the kindest and most generous people you will ever meet and we’re proud to consider her as one of our own," says Jimmy Parker, executive director of the Gaslamp Quarter Association.
The Gaslamp Quarter’s Lifetime Achievement Award, also known as the Armond Award, is named after Armond Viora who operated a key shop in the Gaslamp Quarter from 1927- 1995. The award is presented to a Gaslamp Quarter merchant, volunteer or property owner who has dedicated a significant portion of his/her career to making the Gaslamp Quarter a better place for everyone who lives, works or visits there. Armond was the first recipient of the award.
Now celebrating 20 years of success, the Convention Center has generated $18.3 billion in regional economic impact, $364 million in tax revenues for the City of San Diego and supports 12,500 jobs countywide. The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is a public benefit corporation created by the city to exclusively market, manage and operate the 2.6 million sf waterfront facility.
