The San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) is honored to be among the Technology Training Foundation of America’s 2009 Technology Heroes. The SDCCC is being recognized for donations of used computer and electronics equipment that have been made throughout the years to improve education at local schools. The 9th annual awards banquet will be held on Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Seaside Room at Marina Village.
"Educating our young people to become technologically savvy in an increasingly complex, technologically-based world is important," said Carol Wallace, president and CEO of the SDCCC. "As members of the San Diego’s business community, we’re proud to be a part of preparing the next generation of San Diegans to become engaged, global citizens through technology. "
For the past 6 years, the SDCCC has been donating used computer electronics equipment to Technology Training Foundation of America (TTFA) a statewide, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works with corporations to place their out of service computers into schools or with local nonprofit organizations free of charge. TTFA has helped thousands of youths and young adults’ improve their computer literacy skills in a rapidly advancing technological world.
"It has only been through the generous support and equipment donations from corporations such as the SDCCC that the TTFA has been able to bring much needed computer technology to K-12 schools, colleges and nonprofit organizations identified as falling through the immense technology gap in California," said Jeanette Roache, TTFA president and executive director. "By the end of 2009, TTFA will have donated over 20,000 computers to schools and nonprofits while keeping over 5 million pounds of e-waste out of landfills."
Each Fall, TTFA in partnership with Time Warner Cable, holds an annual Tech Tools for Schools awards program to honor corporations, businesses, administrators, teachers and tech coordinators who have been instrumental, like the SDCCC, in helping prepare youth for our technological world.
